Wood Species Comparison: Performance and Aesthetics
Before an order is finalised, FONDATOP will provide a visualisation within 24 hours to confirm the position and orientation, followed by a sample within one day for the customer's approval. At this stage, you can verify whether the engraved logo or design is clear and sharp, whether the surface feels smooth to the touch, whether the USB stick is sturdy, and whether the logo dimensions are appropriate.
Most of our customers prefer maple because of its clean appearance. Maple's light-coloured surface provides the highest contrast for engraving; even from a distance of 30 millimetres, fine lines and small text remain clearly legible. The casing is sturdy and robust, so it won't get damaged during transit, and it is reasonably priced. Therefore, there is no reason not to choose maple.
As for walnut, some customers have commented that 'my logo looks like a smudge'. Engraving causes the surface to carbonise, and as walnut is naturally dark in colour, the engraved area blends in with the background. Consequently, the engraved logo is sometimes difficult to make out clearly. We therefore recommend screen printing or UV colour printing, or checking first whether a laser-engraved sample is suitable for your logo or design.


Bamboo and carbonised bamboo offer the best value for money and the shortest lead times. They possess good hardness and density; the difference between the two lies in their sensitivity to humidity, which is the highest among these materials. The carbonisation process darkens the wood and slightly improves its stability.
Beech and cherry wood fall into the mid-range category. In terms of durability, beech is the preferred choice: it is hard and has a uniform grain, ensuring consistent engraving results across products from the same batch. Cherry wood has a warm tone, but its colour is unstable-it darkens when exposed to light.
Logo Branding: Laser Engraving vs UV Printing vs Inlay

If your logo is engraved onto a bamboo or wooden USB stick using laser engraving technology, it will show no signs of wear even after three years. In
contrast, UV colour printing or screen printing may show signs of wear.
This is because laser engraving does not merely remain on the surface. When the fibres are ablated, the remaining material becomes deeper, so it will not flake, peel or thin as a result of wear; As the product is used, the surrounding wood will become smoother, whilst the engraved marks will always retain the depth they had when first engraved.
UV colour printing: Suitable for logos or emblems with rich colours (including gradients). However, as UV ink is cured onto the surface, its edges and raised areas will show signs of wear earlier than the engraved marks. Furthermore, UV colour printing requires a flat, smooth surface.
For monochrome logos or emblems, the Fondatop USB flash drive factory offers colour screen printing and pad printing services. Pad printing can also be applied to curved surfaces. The finish produced by pad printing is slightly rougher and less wear-resistant; consequently, this process is suitable for promotional gifts but not for items intended for long-term use.
Natural wood comes with the warmest texture but is most susceptible to moisture; the bamboo and wooden USB flash drive casings produced by the FONDATOP USB factory feature a transparent matt lacquer finish, which both seals the surface and preserves the wood grain; the oil-based coating feels pleasant to the touch and is resistant to scratches.

The Hidden Core: Flash Chip Grade and Real Capacity
The Fondatop USB flash drive factory uses Grade A NAND flash memory to ensure that the capacity is accurate. Some suppliers attract customers with low prices but use 'upgraded' chips; you may not notice any issues with these upgraded chips when you first receive the product, as these flash drives almost always work normally when first inserted. However, after several months of use, the falsely advertised extra capacity will become unreadable, and you will be unable to access the files you previously stored.
When providing quotations, FONDATOP USB flash drives are always quoted on the basis of full capacity and high-speed performance. We would ask customers, when comparing prices, to ensure that other suppliers are also quoting on the basis of full capacity. Upgrade USB drives may report a capacity that their controller does not actually support-for example, labelling a 4GB chip as 64GB. File copying may appear normal and error-free; however, data exceeding the actual capacity limit will be silently discarded. Most promotional wooden USB sticks still use a USB 2.0 interface, which is perfectly suitable for one-off distribution of documents stored on USB sticks with a capacity of 16 GB or less. If the capacity is 32 GB or higher, or if the USB stick is to be used to store videos or RAW format files, USB 3.0 should be chosen. The choice of USB-C is not based on transfer speed considerations, but rather on interface compatibility; dual-interface solutions typically cost around 20% to 40% more.

Take a wedding as an example: 600 edited JPEG photos, each 8–15 MB, take up a total of 5–9 GB (16 GB); add RAW format photos at 25–45 MB each (64 GB); and add a 4K video at approximately 350 MB per minute (128 GB). A 1080p training video takes up 60–100 MB per minute, so a two-hour video library would require 32 GB.

Material Comparison: Wood vs Bamboo vs Metal vs Plastic
Wood gives the highest perceived quality and the strongest brand story - good indoors, sensitive to humidity extremes, mid-to-high price. Bamboo is lighter, more uniform, similarly priced, faster, and the highest mould risk if under-dried. Metal is best in class for durability: humidity-indifferent, impact-resistant, dimensionally stable - the right answer for daily long-term or industrial use. Plastic is cheapest and least memorable, but wins on tight budgets, 48-hour turnarounds and moulded shapes. Biodegradable materials - paper, cork, bio-composites - have the best end-of-life profile and the lowest durability.
